About Humphrey “Boomer” Bogart

Hi, my name is Humphrey ‘Boomer’ Bogart, named by my foster family for a movie actor who they believe I bear a close resemblance to. (If you want to rename me that’s ok too.) Please don’t believe the hype about pit bulls. My foster family have noticed that I must have come from a loving family though, unfortunately, that family has not claimed me yet. I was wearing three collars, but no tags, and no chip when I came to my foster family, begging, for two days, for them to notice and feed and love me.

I love to play, am housebroken, and my foster family was impressed that I am not destructive of furniture, carpets, shoes, etc. Give me a chew toy, though, and I will eat it up! I am ever so affectionate, cherishing long hugs, belly rubs, kisses, and cuddles. If you say ‘down’ or ‘no’ to me, I listen and respond by immediately sitting or lying down. Then I very cutely scoot across the floor while still laying down, to make sure that you won’t be mad at me for moving after you told me to stay down. It’s hard to be humble; I know I’m cute. I also, adorably, perk my left ear when you talk to me, so most of the time you see me with one ear up and the other down. I do not bother you while you eat, as long as you gently remind me not to. If you leave food within my reach I will try to get to it, but if you tell me ‘Down,’ I will sit and look at the food until you give me a sample. I have faith that you will. My foster family has an older dog who, used to being an ‘only’ pet, doesn’t like to share space with me. I don’t fight with him but like to try to get his attention by initiating play, which he doesn’t appreciate. Another young, similarly sized dog (50 lbs, though I might still grow a little) would be an ideal playmate for me, and I am gentle enough to thrive in a family with children, while an adult parent who just wanted to cuddle all day would be ok too.
