About Duke
Duke is an outdoor male Great Pyrenees (mix) weighing in at 90 lb. He is a playful guy who walks moderately well on a leash. In keeping with the typical breed personality, he does bark, but he is not the most talkative (barking) GP we’ve known. Duke, unfortunately, has failed at being a livestock guardian dog (LGD) and is absolutely not appropriate for LGD work. He has been known to scale 6.5- to 7-foot-high fences, though this has not been witnessed. He either jumped to the top and went over, or he climbed his way up and over. We do not wish to mislead anyone on his abilities or inabilities. We simply wish to present a fair assessment so that the right owner can help him live out the rest of his beautiful years safely and in an abundance of love. He is sweet and will quickly have people falling in love with him, which is why we need to ensure he goes to the right home
He is sweet and does want to please his owner. He needs to be an ONLY pet with a patient and knowledgeable owner that will continue training him to transition to indoor life or he MUST have coyote-proof fencing that neither he nor a coyote would be able to overcome. If placed as an outdoor pet, he will require an appropriately sized shelter. A rehoming fee is in place. We will also require a veterinarian reference for the potential new owner. Duke is UTD on vaccines (to include rattlesnake vaccine but excluding kennel cough), neutered, microchipped, and had his annual exam in January. To schedule a time to talk, please TEXT 505-450-2744.
